Tree Monk Coffee Roaster – Indulgence of Café Hoppin’ with Jess (KK City Series)

Hi guys! My last post for this mini project of mine was dated wayy back in July. I NEED TO GET THIS STARTED AGAIN! So without further a due, let’s go into it shall we?

A few months ago, Clarence and I went to Tree Monk Coffee Roaster located at Lintas Jaya Uptownship, the same area as OUM and Boulevard Hypermall in Kepayan Bypass. I first found out about this café through my students as they know me well how much I love coffee.

The interior of the cafe was nice and it has the hipster vibe to it although I have to say it didn’t wow me as much as The Workshop café (Click here to read about The Workshop café). However I love how the coffee mugs are being kept nicely in rows in the barista area where they also have their blackboard  on the wall and the menus are handwritten. I also love how they display their coffee beans, which they have these small compartments where the coffee bean is in and covered with a clear glass so that the customer able to see the coffee beans. There’s also a few fake trees inside to fit the name of the café and I really like how they look.

I must say they have quite a number of variety in their coffee beans as they have coffee beans as far from African region like Kenya and also Costa Rica, South America. I guess they roast the coffee beans on their own because they have a coffee roasting machine in the café. Besides that, they also have a variety of cakes on display too.

I had the Brewed Coffee in a syphon with Lime Cake and Clarence had the Iced Mocha Latte with Chocolate Tart. Both of out drinks taste fine but we were a tad bit disappointed with our dessert as the Lime Cake is very dry and the tart is so hard.

It’s a nice café to hangout at if you’re in that area or if you just want to visit a new café. So to those live in Putatan or Kepayan area, check the place out!

Signature Market – Healthy Food Haul

I’m now in the process of slowly getting back into the rhythm of eating healthy again. For that, I wanted to get some healthy ingredients for my meal prep as well as snacks for this whole new journey of mine. Recently, I found out 2 of my friends, Maslight and Delores bought their healthy snacks via online at Signature Market, an online Malaysian healthy food market and I thought I should try to purchase my healthy necessities there. So I did and after waiting for a week, my package has finally arrived!

There are a huge variety of healthy, organic snacks and ingredients available on the Signature Market’s website from nut mixes, organic products like Chia seed, Quinoa and also organic coffee & teas at a very affordable price! I bought my Chia seed for only RM10.00 and it’s 200gm! If you are interested, click the Signature Market’s website to check out the products in store. Right now there is a Ramadan sale happening and for your 1st purchase, the delivery charges will be FREE! Yes, FREE! Now who doesn’t like free delivery?!

Below are my purchases!

1. Raw Almond

I’ve been wanting to try to make my own Almond milk, hence for this purchase. But if I decided not to make my own Almond milk, I can just roast it up a bit and become yummy snacks!

2. Healthy Nut Mix

In this small little packet consist of mixture if nuts such as Almond, Cashew, Pecan, Hazelnut and Peanut! All the yummy nuts, mixed together!

3. Organic Oat

Honestly, I’m not much of a fan of oats but I’ve made overnight oats before and they tasted so much better; well at least they tasted tolerable than having oats with just plain water or milk. Next 2 items that I bought have something to do with my upgraded overnight oat recipes, which I can’t wait to make!

3. Antioxidant Boost

The benefits of antioxidants are super important to good health because it fights off ageing and helps in making your skin looks youthful, not forgetting it can increase your immune system. This packet consists of dried Apricots, dried Cranberries, dried Wolfberries and dried Blackcurrants. I’ve never heard nor tried Wolfberries before so I’m looking forward to that.

4. Cranberry Blackcurrant Mix

Well, the name of the package says it all about the content. I LOVE CRANBERRIES THAT’S WHY I GOT IT! The reason why I bought 2 products with Cranberries in them! Cranberries taste really good in overnight oats!

Now 2 of my last packs..

4. Chia Seed

Chia seed is one of the popular SUPERFOODS! Chia seed really packs a punch in its benefits from promoting healthy skin, reducing signs of aging, improves the digestive system and the most intrigued benefit of all for me is it helps in weight lost and increase the metabolism rate!

The way I consume my Chia seed is that I put in anything that I drink, I even put it into my drinking water. It’s fun to watch the seed turns and looking similarly like frog eggs!

There you go, my healthy food haul! For more information on Signature Market, you can either visit their website or Instagram account.

I hope my eagerness to improve my health is here to stay! I still have half a year to reach my goal in losing weight this year! Wish me luck please 😊

I shall post up my overnight oats recipes but that’s for another post in the future!

Till then, Jess x

Lunchbox Meals To Work – Week 1

Happy Monday everyone, another week has passed and here we are reminiscing what did we do last week that made it went by so fast. How was your week? I hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend, all I did was staying at home relaxing and tidying up my room for it to be revamped this year if you guys are wondering.

This year, I promised myself that I wanted to be wiser when it comes to choosing what goes into my belly and to save more moolah on buying lunch every day. With that in mind, I started to bring my own lunchbox to work during the weekdays and I woke up way earlier than my regular morning alarm to prepare for my lunchbox for 5 straight days. I didn’t expect that I would be this diligent and committed but I managed and I think deserved a pat on the back for being so devoted to my goals.

All the lunchbox meal that I prepared were super easy but of course, I need to prepare the mise en place which means all the cutting and chopping activities, I have to prepare the night before. So now, I have to spend some time in the kitchen before bed to prepare all the ingredients that I need to cook the next day so that  I won’t have to wake up super early to prepare for my lunchbox. Believe me, if you have all your ingredients ready, it saves so much time that you just have to throw everything into the pan. Beside, you don’t have to think much on what to cook, which can be a tough thing to do given that you just woke up and hating yourself for having to wake up to go to work. So prepare your mise en place the night before to avoid not knowing what to cook and wasting time cutting and chopping that could lead you to be late for work.

This is going to be a very long post as I wanted to share with you the lunchbox menus that I brought to work this week.I even include the prep time and how long did it take to cook all the meals listed below!

Day 1: Vegetarian Linguine sautéed with mushrooms, pan grilled chicken breast and boiled broccoli.

Processed with VSCO with lv01 preset

Mise en place prep time: 15 mins (chopping garlic, cutting mushrooms and broccoli and marinating chicken breast)

Cooking time: 35 mins (includes cleaning time and putting the food into my lunchbox)

1 cup of mushrooms
½ chicken breast
1 cup of broccoli
Vegetarian Linguine
Chopped garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
Canola oil for sauté and for pan-grilling

I used 1 cooking and a pot for cooking the food. The first thing I did was to pan grilled the chicken because it took the longest to cook. Pan-grill the chicken breast until golden and cooked the way through and still juicy when gently pressing the protein. While pan-grilling the chicken, I boiled water in the pot and when the water boiled up, I add some salt into the boiling water and then the broccoli so that the broccoli would not taste bland. I boiled the broccoli until they change color to a really bright green and soften a little then strained them and them into running water to stop them from still cooking as I don’t like my broccoli to be mushy. I boiled some water again so that I can boil my spaghetti and the spaghetti only took 3 minutes to be al denté. While I was boiling my spaghetti, my chicken was already done and I moved the chicken into my lunchbox and with the same pan, I sauté my garlic and mushrooms. I put the spaghetti into the pan and add some salt and pepper for taste until everything combined together. I then arrange all the cooked food into my lunchbox and it was all done in just 35 minutes.

Day 2: Roasted chicken and broccoli with halves cherry tomatoes.

Processed with VSCO with lv01 preset

Mise en place prep time: 10 mins (halving tomato cherries, cutting broccoli and marinating chicken)
Cooking time: 40 mins (includes cleaning time and putting the food into my lunchbox)

1 chicken thigh
1 cup of broccoli
1 cup of tomato cherries
Salt and pepper to taste

I was in fact woke up a little late on that day but thankfully, I have all my ingredients ready (mise en place is so IMPORTANT) so all I need to do is to heat up the oven, put the marinated chicken in the roasting pan and put it into the oven and go to shower. By the time I finished my shower, the chicken was done and cooked all the way through then I put in the broccoli and let it roast with the chicken for 5 minutes. Arrange the chicken, broccoli and the tomato cherries into my lunchbox. I did not do anything with the tomato cherries as I prefer to eat it raw.

Day 3: Sautéed vegetarian linguine with roasted cherry tomatoes, roasted chicken breast chunks and mushrooms.

Processed with VSCO with lv01 preset

Mise en place prep time: 30 mins (chopping garlic, cutting and roasting cherry tomatoes, marinating and roasting the chicken breast)
Cooking time: 15 mins (includes cleaning time and putting the food into my lunchbox)

1 cup of mushrooms
½ chicken breast
1 cup of cherry tomatoes
Vegetarian Linguine
Chopped garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
Virgin coconut oil for sauté
Chopped parsley for garnish

Another super easy meal! I boiled water in a pot and put tiny droplets of oil so that the spaghetti won’t stick together and salt to give some flavour to the spaghetti. When the spaghetti is done, I then strained them and put them aside. I heat up the pan and I add in enough virgin coconut oil that was made by my dad. I then sauté garlic, put in the mushroom then the roasted cherry tomatoes and a little bit of water to make a sauce. The linguine then being added into the pan and let it cooked for 5 minutes, put the roasted chicken chunks in and finally the parsley for garnish.

Day 4: Newly harvested brown rice, stir-fried broccoli with chicken, Bosou and Tuhau as side dishes.

Processed with VSCO with lv01 preset

Mise en place prep time: 15 mins (chopping garlic, cutting broccoli, marinating chicken breast and cooking the rice)
Cooking time: 15 mins (includes cleaning time and putting the food into my lunchbox)

Chicken breast chunks
1 cup of broccoli
1 cup of newly harvested brown rice
Chopped garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
Virgin coconut oil for sauté
Already made Bosou and Tuhau

For the rice, I cooked it while I was preparing mise en place because rice takes longer time to cook and I just leave it the rice cooker on so that the rice will be kept warm until the next day. I then heat the virgin coconut oil in a pan and sauté the garlic and I put in the chicken breast chunk and let it browned, then I added in the broccoli. Let it all cooked together then lastly I put some salt and pepper for taste. For the Tuhau, I actually made it ahead of time because I always have it in stock in my fridge and as for the Bosou, it was actually given by a friend who also gave me the newly harvested brown rice. Bless his kind heart for giving me high quality brown rice and the yummy Bosou.

Day 5: Vegetarian Linguine Aglio Olio with roasted chicken chunks and mushroom

Processed with VSCO with 5 preset

Mise en place prep time: 30 mins (chopping garlic, cutting mushroom, marinating and roasting the chicken breast)
Cooking time: 15 mins (includes cleaning time and putting the food into my lunchbox)

1 cup of mushrooms
1 cup chicken breast chunks
Vegetarian Linguine
Chopped garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
1 piece of dried chilli (chopped) to substitute pepper flakes
Olive oil for sauté
Chopped parsley for garnish

When you think that preparing Aglio Olio is hard, No! It is actually one of the easiest ways to cook your pasta and it is actually one of my favourite pasta dishes because I just love olive oil! Firstly, boil the linguine so that it will become soften and then strain it. After that I put it into a bowl and put some salt and pepper to taste and the chopped parsley. I then heat the pan with olive oil in it and sauté the garlic, chopped dried chilli and lastly I put the roasted chicken chunks. I then switched off the stove after the garlic has become golden brown and pour everything into the bowl with the linguine in it. I tossed the linguine so that it combine with the olive oil. Add a little bit salt and pepper to taste and it’s done!

I hope this post will inspire you to prepare and bring your own lunchbox to work. Not only you are in control of what’s going into your belly, you can also save up some money and use it to get a new phone, get that dress that you’ve been eyeing on or to take you somewhere you’ve been wanting to go. Besides, it can spice up your feed when you posted it up on Instagram and maybe the one that you’ve been having a crush on finally notice you and your awesome skills in cooking!

Until next post, Jessica x

Bye 2016, Hello 2017

I hope it’s still not too late to wish everybody Happy New Year 2017! I am back from blogging hiatus and I hope this commitment of mine is here to stay. One of my resolutions is to be blogging more often like I used to and to make this resolution a success, I have scheduled myself to post something at least twice a week and lets keep our fingers crossed so that I will be committed this time.

2016 has been such a wonderful year to me whereby it was a year of self discovery and I dare to say I loved myself so much last year that I basically did everything that my heart desires while at the same time burnt quite a huge amount cash for those amazing experiences but hey, I absolutely have no regrets for all of it. In the relationship department, I was single the whole year of 2016 (albeit a few misunderstandings with some guys) and I choose to be that way cos I just want a year that I can just focus on loving, splurging and spend time for myself.

As for 2017, I shall keep the same vibe from 2016 that is to live life happily but at the same time I want to achieve even more in 2017, which are to create and to inspire. In fact, I was inspired from reading my friend’s blogpost by setting easy themes/goals and grouping all the resolutions that I have into each goals that I have set so that I can really execute all of them and making my 2017 awesome! So I have finally came up with these 2 themes which are Focused and Creativity.

  • To be more focused on achieving my health goals (eat cleaner, run more and further, keep hydrating)
  • Save more money for future use (travel, new experiences and more travel)
  • Focused more on my own happiness (counting blessings)
  • Spend more time with family and God
  • Looking at the positive side of things
  • To be more organized of my own life

  • Cook more variety (trying out more cuisines)
  • Be more creative in my workout routines (MMA, Boxing)
  • #apictureaday for Instagram
  • Post varied blog contents (fashion, cooking recipes, adventures)
  • Continuing on my poetry project
  • To go for hand lettering workshop
  • Bedroom revamp

Cheers to a happier, prosperous, even more blessings in 2017. Let’s live!!

A new journey…

*takes a deep breath* So here goes..

Hi there and welcome to this humble blog of mine. I believe that first step is the toughest for anything, including to figure out what I wanted to start things off with this blog. I guess I should share what’s up with the decision to create this new blog whereas I already have one in the first place. Well, after a deep thought with heavy consideration and not forgetting endless mugs of coffee, I have decided to have a new blog and with a very heavy heart, I will be abandoning the old one that I have circa 2009.

This decision was indeed a very hard one for me to make as I am a type of person that is easily attach my feelings or emotions with lifeless things, and indeed the old blog definitely has a special place in my heart. The intention to have a new blog has long been lingering since last year and the reason for that is I have lost the excitement in blogging and I believe blogging to the old blog is one of the main reasons that caused that excitement to dim itself. It’s not that I want to point fingers and find anything to put the blame but I guess I just want to keep myself away from the many fond memories that have turned to bad remembrance that I have shared on that blog. I just can’t make myself to delete those posts as they were writings that were honest and emotional, especially posts that are related to my ex. I know this reason might seemed a little dramatic to some people cos yeah those are just postings but to me, they were more than that, they were my heart-pours.

Another reason that also highly affects the decision to have a new blog is because I am now more interested to produce more “mature” contents and the future planning for my blog is  to get its own domain and maybe its own hosting in much later future. If I still continue to post for the old blog, it would not have the vibe that I wanted as the old blog contains all my immature rants in my teen years about hating school, the “I can’t wait to graduate so that I can work and get my own money” type of posts, which irks me but at the same time enjoyable to read and reminisce cos I can’t believe that I was such a dramatic bitch.

So those are the main reasons for this new voyage. I hope that my writing muse will come back strong as I do not want this passion of mine to be M.I.A again and hopefully I can keep up and maintain this blog much better than the old one. x
